This novel is also full of cultural references, from the Ruso-Japanese war that was taking place while Soseki was writing this book to popular plays and haikus, so if you are interested in Japanese history and culture this is probably a very good read.
So the main particularity of this book is that the narrator is a cat, and he tells us about his life with a middle class family at the begging of the 20th century ( Meiji period) the cat smart and humorous critique on the humans around him is the base of the book, which is made up of dialogues between Kushami (the owner of the cat and protagonist of the novel) and his family and friends together with long reflections of the cat on human nature, history, science ( he is a very educated cat).
